1000 canceled 1958 -1960 7 cent stamps of red and blue B52 bombers, metal pigment, patina and polymer on canvas.
Paul Seftel’s paintings explore a language of time and consciousness. Working with 100s of thousands of cancelled US postage stamps from throughout the 20th Century, Seftel’s ‘US Gone Postal’ series, surveys the fabric of collective thought, message and connectivity through a century of lost messages.
Exploring the nature of connection, these topographies emerge from deep memory, dreams, meditation and the artists endless migrations. Appearing as if channelled from the Earth, through space and time, Seftel’s work looks at what is hidden, bringing to the surface lost perspectives and realizations.
Using archival hand made paints, along with stone and metal minerals, Paul’s use of natural materials are inspired by the changing atmosphere, the elements, light and consciousness at large. Nature, spirit, and the body of time are considered in sedimentary washes representing geological and emotional change. Capturing forces of nature in epiphany and entropy, Paul Seftel’s work expresses our shifting planet, taking a peek at consciousness from a cosmic perspective.
